Process Selection Guide

When to Choose Rapid Prototyping?

Choose Rapid Prototyping when you need:

Fast design iteration without expensive hard-tool investment.

Concept, fit-check or functional samples in early-to-middle product development phase.

Batch size 1-500 pieces for market validation before formal mass-production tooling.

Multi-material options for appearance, mechanical and assembly verification.

Choose CNC Prototype when your parts:

Demand tight tolerance, real solid-block metal or engineering-plastic raw material and high mechanical strength.

Choose 3D Printing when your parts:

Contain complex lattices, deep hidden internal channels or free-form organic geometries with relaxed tolerance requirements.

Choose Vacuum Casting when your parts:

Need 10-50 cosmetic plastic copies with fine surface textures.

Choose Sheet-Metal Prototype when your parts:

Are thin-wall metal enclosures, cabinets and sheet-based structural brackets.

Choose Injection Molding when you need:

Volume above 1000 pieces, design fully finalized for low-cost mass manufacturing.

Rapid Prototyping Design Guidelines

Follow these recommendations to optimize manufacturability, shorten lead-time and control costs:

Wall Thickness: Meet process-specific minimum wall thickness (CNC metal ≥0.8 mm; plastic ≥1.5 mm; SLA ≥0.8 mm; SLS ≥1.0 mm; vacuum casting ≥1.5 mm). Avoid abrupt wall-thickness changes.

Hole Features: Avoid extremely tiny holes; small or micro holes are better finished by post-drilling.

Internal Corners: Keep minimum inner radius R0.5 mm where possible to reduce stress concentration and tool wear.

Undercuts: Deep complex undercuts increase cost for CNC parts; additive or vacuum casting is preferred for such geometries.

Draft Angle: Reserve proper draft angle for demolding or post-processing if prototypes simulate injection-molded parts.

Overhang Features: For 3D-printed parts, minimize sharp overhangs to reduce support marks and post-processing workload.
